PCC welcomes Online Extremism Summit

Sussex PCC Katy Bourne said today’s Online Extremism Summit in Paris was an important step by world leaders and internet companies to make the web and social media a safer place for users.

“Coming on the second anniversary of the awful Manchester Arena bombing and only weeks after the mass shooting in Christchurch New Zealand, I am pleased to see the Prime Minister and the UK are at the forefront of the global battle to stop online extremism, with new legislation and an independent regulator being proposed.

As the Prime Minister has said however, we need global collaboration between governments and business to crack down on the generation and sharing of extreme and hateful online content.”
