PCC welcomes changes to Government's latest strategy
PCC Katy Bourne has welcomed the news that sexual harassment will be included in the Government's latest strategy to tackle violence against women and girls.
Mrs Bourne comments: “It is encouraging that the Government is showing women and girls across the country that any form of sexual harassment will not be tolerated and should not be normalised within society. Plan International UK’s latest survey revealed that 66% of girls and young women have been sexually harassed in public and 60% said they did not feel safe online or walking home. These figures are concerning for everyone.
“We recently took a positive step forward by recognising “upskirting” as a crime and this further acknowledgement of the seriousness of other forms of sexual harassment will hopefully give victims the confidence to come forward and report these crimes knowing they will be taken seriously."
