Post-lockdown policing challenges: With final lockdown measures due to be lifted on 19th July, Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne will be addressing questions on the challenges this poses for policing to Chief Constable Shiner in her webcast Performance & Accountability Meeting this Friday.

Mrs Bourne said: “I know that the final easing of lockdown measures has long been anticipated but, as we move towards an emphasis on personal responsibility and the re-opening of the night-time economy, I will be looking to fully understand the challenges that this poses for Sussex Police and seeking reassurance from the Chief Constable that her force is fully prepared to meet them.

“While the vast majority of Sussex residents and visitors will, I am sure, continue to behave sensibly, we are likely to see crowded bars and clubs as some look to celebrate “Freedom Day” and I want to be sure that Sussex Police are ready to meet the increased demand this may bring.

“I’m also keen to understand what impact the current designated quarantine hotels in Sussex for international travellers from “red list” countries have had on the force and to ensure that they are continuing to engage and work with partners in this area.”
